Company Background

Stabicraft Boats was founded in Invercargill, New Zealand, in 1987. Boat builders Paul Adams and Bruce Dickens built the Ally Duck, the company’s first rigid-hulled aluminum-chambered boat that year. The company was able to export their first boats to British Columbia in 1988 and they entered both the Australian and United States markets in 1994.

In 1997, only ten years after their founding, the company received New Zealand Way brand accreditation, which was a joint venture with Tradenz and NZ Tourism that was designed to mark companies that produced high quality products with a focus on environmental responsibility.

Evolution of Design

The company’s first recreational and family boat was the 550XC, released in 1996. This boat was further split into “Fish’r” and “XR Sport” models in 1999. Stabicraft released their Generation 2 pontoons in 1997, with an emphasis on a slimmer shape and improved stability. Stepped chines were implemented to improve lift and handling while keeping passengers drier.
